Surgical Vision Correction in Tukwila

It can be unfortunate to learn that circumstances beyond your control prevent LASIK from being an option for your vision correction, but we want you to know there are real solutions! Below, you can learn more about RLE and ICL, and how we determine the best vision correction for you.

REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE

As your eye ages, the natural lens of your eye can become less flexible and struggle to provide clear vision — a condition known as presbyopia. Refractive lens exchange (RLE) is a surgery in which your eye surgeon will remove the natural, aged lens and replace it with a premium intraocular lens (IOL) that can restore or even improve your vision, similar to cataract surgery. Also like cataract surgery, the surgery itself is a very quick outpatient procedure, usually lasting no more than 10 minutes per eye, but providing patients a lifetime of benefits.

The idea is to go through RLE before the presbyopia worsens dramatically, or before a cataract develops, because RLE can be a solution to both. The new IOL will replace the natural, deteriorating lens and stop the most common side effects of an aging eye.

Not sure if your vision loss is being caused by cataracts? A consultation with one of our experienced eye surgeons can help provide clarity about whether you are a good fit for RLE.

IMPLANTED COLLAMER LENS

An Implanted Collamer Lens procedure (ICL) is another quick, outpatient surgery with life-changing potential. In ICL, a phakic IOL made of natural material is inserted in front of the eye’s existing crystalline lens without the need for operation on corneal tissue or the natural lens itself.

Unlike LASIK, which changes the shape of the cornea by removing tissue, ICL simply inserts a lens that can do the reshaping from within. ICL doesn’t affect the cornea, which means that recovery for ICL doesn’t carry the same risk for side effects like dry eye. ICL can also correct for astigmatism and high degrees of myopia, which LASIK cannot, and is great for patients with thin corneas who are at risk for complications with LASIK.

Your K2 Vision surgeon will have more information that can help you decide if ICL is the right choice for your vision correction.
