Surgical Vision Correction in Tigard

Just because someone is told that they may not be a good candidate for LASIK or premium cataract surgery doesn’t mean that they can’t still achieve amazing eyesight. We believe RLE and ICL really can be the solutions for people who need them and encourage you to come in for a consultation at K2 Vision to find out if they’re right for you.

REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE

The eye’s natural crystalline lens will naturally deteriorate with age, resulting in vision loss over time. The only real correction is surgery, and in Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) the deteriorating lens is removed and replaced with a premium artificial intraocular lens (IOL) that actually improves vision.

Prior to RLE, lens replacement only happened in the case of cataract, but today, there’s more that can be done. RLE is actually performed prior to the cataract developing, or at least in its early stages, and is administered in response to Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome (DLS). RLE will replace the lens at an early enough stage that it stops presbyopia from developing and prevents cataract formation. And, like cataract surgery, RLE is a simple outpatient procedure that takes less than 10 minutes per eye.

If you have any suspicion that you may be experiencing vision loss due to cataracts, come to K2 Vision for a consultation and one of our experienced eye surgeons can provide the help you need, whether that’s determining your fit for RLE or helping you look into cataract surgery instead.

IMPLANTED COLLAMER LENS

An Implanted Collamer Lens (ICL) procedure is a relatively quick outpatient surgery typically lasting around 10 minutes. During ICL, a phakic IOL made from natural material is inserted in front of the eye’s natural lens without the need to disrupt the corneal surface of the eye.

ICL does its job by reshaping from within, which is what differentiates it from LASIK. This causes less damage to the cornea and reduces risk of dry eye.

Altogether, this is what makes ICL a great option for patients who have been told that their astigmatism, high degree of myopia, or thin corneas make them unfit for LASIK or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Your K2 Vision surgeon will take time during a consultation to help you determine if ICL is the right choice for your vision correction and lifestyle.
