Patrick Munson, MD is a board certified Ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience. He is a West Point graduate and retired Army Colonel whose military career focused on improving human performance through vision correction surgery. Now, he continues to pursue excellence in surgical outcomes, safety, and patient experience.
Education & Experience
Dr. Munson graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and he completed ophthalmology residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center. For two decades, he provided vision correction and eye care to soldiers, retirees and their families. Dedicated to pursuing the most cutting-edge care and technology, Dr. Munson served as faculty at four universities (including UW) and still regularly presents at national ophthalmology meetings. He is a certified trainer on multiple laser platforms and is one of only three surgeon trainers for the EVO ICL nationally. He has personally performed over 20,000 eye surgeries and has trained over 60 doctors to become eye surgeons. Dr. Munson specializes in Premium Cataract Surgery, Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), the EVO ICL, and laser procedures like LASIK, PRK and SMILE.
Personal Impact
Dr. Munson’s passion for vision correction started in the 1990’s when poor vision almost prevented his own military career. An “early adopter”, he had PRK in Canada before the procedure was FDA-approved in the U.S. That life-changing experience with state-of-the-art vision correction fuels his empathy today for patients in their own desire for visual freedom.
Outside the Operating Room
Dr. Munson grew up in Michigan but travelled all over the world with the military. He fell in love with the beauty of the PNW and now makes Washington his home. Dr. Munson enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, three adult children, and three dogs. He is an avid fan of Star Wars, local sports, and his family. He enjoys volunteering for the Seattle Free Clinic and on overseas medical missions to South and Central America.
