Dr. Hamilton is a superstar eye surgeon. He’s collaborative, explains things well and really looks out for your best interests. He is a terrific surgeon. I feel grateful to have him as my ophthalmologist. He is definitely the best ophthalmologist I have ever had and one of the top physicians I have had for medical care. Waited til my one year appointment was finished to finally say that getting LASIK with Dr. Hamilton was 100% the right choice for me. My vision is perfect, I wish I had done it sooner, life is easier this way - I could not stand my contacts and with astigmatism I was always struggling to have clear vision with them. The process over the last year was seamless. My appointments always ran on time and the entire staff was lovely. The surgery itself was super fast and I was lucky to not have any side effects except for the dryness that went away within a couple months. Dr. Hamilton is easy going, patient, and I always felt comfortable and assured with each step by him. I give the process a corny 20/20 - would do it all over again.

Dr. Hamilton was great. I had 2 procedures done on each eye. I had cataract surgeryvon my right and smile surgery on my left so I didn't have to wear contacts on just 1 eye. Dr. Hamilton is very meticulous about his work, his staff is great and always kind and let's me know everything that is going to happen before the procedure and also things to expect after I healed up. Both procedures were painless and I'll tell you now besides the dryness on the eye I had cataract surgery I have 20/15 vision. The smile surgery on my left there's no dryness (smile is the way to go). I was skeptical I would have double vision since I did 2 different procedures or would be bothered, but nope all is well and am glad I did both.

He pioneered many new surgical techniques during his 15 years as Professor and Director of the UCLA Laser Refractive Center at the Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles.

Education & Experience

Dr. Hamilton was valedictorian of his high school class. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in physics and mathematics, Dr. Hamilton earned a Masters of Science degree in biomedical engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia. He continued his education at the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a Doctorates of Medicine degree and received numerous academic awards and scholarships, culminating in his graduating at the top of the class. He began performing cataract, corneal transplantation, and refractive surgery during his residency training at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. He has served on the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Preferred Practice Pattern Committee for Refractive Surgery, a publication that sets the standard of care for refractive surgery in the United States. He currently serves on the Refractive/Cataract Clinical Subcommittee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

When he’s not helping patients achieve visual freedom, you can usually find Dr. Hamilton with his son, who is a true master of the Rubik’s Cube! They went to the World Championships in Melbourne in 2019 and you can even check out a documentary called “Speed Cubers” on Netflix, some of which was filmed at their house!
